Effective Network Building among the Civil Society Organisations

The strengthening of local nongovernmental organisations working for persons with disabilities is an important element of the strategic framework for JVD in the year 2022. Small disability organisations are working in a scattered manner without consulting each other for different service provision including lobby and advocacy at different level. We are trying to bring local level partner organisations and likeminded organisations on the same platform to develop a strong network of NGOs to support and avail the services of each other.  JVS felt a great need to learn more about networks and to test our assumptions and understanding of the contributions that they can make toward building effective network in different states. JVS conducted two open discussion meeting to build effective network of NGOs among our partner organisations and member of DPOs, at Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) and Imphal (Manipur) on 28th February and 29th March 2022. Talent Hunt and Mass Awareness on Disability

The ‘Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities’ (CRPD) recognizes the right of Persons with Disabilities (PWD) to engage in sports, play, and recreation. However, this right is not always realized and persons with disabilities remain marginalized in terms of access to sport, and this has been further exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic for the past two years. Sport is a powerful tool, not just for individual health, wellbeing and leisure, but also as an opportunity for inclusion. There is a need for athletes with disabilities to receive the same level of support as able-bodied athletes, in order for them to excel. Realizing the fact, JVS organized a regional cricket tournament for persons with disabilities on December 2-3, 2021 to showcase their talent. Teams from Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal participated in the tournament. The West Bengal team won the tournament, defeating Jharkhand their counterparts.
