ABOUT JAN VIKAS SAMITI
Jan Vikas Samiti (JVS) is a community development organization based in Varanasi (UP), India, working for poor and marginalized sections of society since more than 25 years. The organization has a solid presence at grassroots with over 850 SHGs, animated by a team of 60 committed professionals, social workers and volunteers, who ensure an effective reach of our programmes to the people with ‘last mile connectivity. The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Govt. of Uttar Pradesh has recognized our service to persons with disabilities and has conferred us with ‘State Award for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities – 2020’. We have also recently won the ‘ZERO Project Award – 2022’ for our project ‘SAMBHAV’ for Tele rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities.
Muskan Rehabilitation Centre Needs Your Help
Since 2012, Muskaan has been supporting children with intellectual, neurological, and multiple disabilities in and around Harahua, Varanasi. Currently, 26 children receive physiotherapy, speech therapy, play therapy, and functional learning at the centre. Over the years, children have shown visible improvements in mobility, communication, confidence, and daily living skills — giving families renewed hope for the future. For many, this is the only specialised care available.

In 2024, on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Chief Minister of Utttar Pradesh Shri Yogi Aadiyanath today presented State Awards to 19 Individuals with disabilities and Organizations who have done exceptional work in their lives and or in the field of disability. On behalf of Jan Vikas Samiti, Fr Chandran Riymonds, the Secretary cum Executive Director, received the award under the category ‘Best Research (Innovation) to Empower the life of Persons with Disabilities’ for the program “Early Identification and Early Intervention for Children with Developmental Delays and Disabilities through Tele-Rehabilitation”. Jan Vikas Samiti is grateful to the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Government of Uttar Pradesh, for this recognition and honor, and appreciates all the JVS team members who work hard to provide home-based Rehabilitation to 1580 children with disabilities through the program.

Help village women establish their own ‘Grocery Stores’ for a sustainable source of income for their deprived families. We aim to develop and empower rural women by helping them in establishment of boutique centres, and grocery shops. We also help women in the production and marketing of washing powder, Phenyl, Harpic and in the production and marketing of Sanitary Pad. Rural women are key agents for development. They play a catalytic role towards achievement of transformational economic, environmental and social changes required for sustainable development. Therefore, we assist them in training and workshop of rural market. Training equips them with skills to pursue new livelihoods and adapt technology to their needs. Muskan Rehabilitation and Day Care Centre
JVS has a Rehabilitation and Resource Centre for children with intellectual and learning disabilities with a well-furnished therapy centre. ‘Muskan’ provides effective Physiotherapy, ADL Training and Playful Learning sessions to Children with Disabilities (CwDs). These engaging sessions lead to gradual improvement in their mobility, communication abilities, Activities of Daily Living (ADL), and IQ. Disability is not a curse; however can be turned into ability with efforts, dedication and a positive attitude.
