The campaign reached 7,921 students from 40 schools through Art and Quiz Competitions, encouraging students to understand disability, inclusion, dignity, and equal opportunities. At the district level, students actively shared their ideas through creative artworks and thoughtful responses. A total of 24 students were recognized at the district level for their outstanding performance. The artworks and messages received during the campaign reflected empathy, awareness, and a positive attitude towards persons with disabilities. The initiative reaffirmed Jan Vikas Samiti’s commitment to promoting inclusion and nurturing socially responsible young minds.

A total of 15 participants took part in the training, where they learned about government schemes and entitlements available for persons with disabilities. Through group discussions and shared experiences, they explored how to support others in their communities who often face difficulties in accessing their rights due to lack of information and other barriers. This training helped participants become more confident and better prepared to guide and assist persons with disabilities in their local areas.

The course is recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), New Delhi. The program was jointly inaugurated by Shri Uttam Ojha, Member, Advisory Committee for Persons with Disabilities, Uttar Pradesh, Shri Badri Prasad Verma, Block Development Officer (In-Charge), Harahua Block, Varanasi, and Shri Chandran Riymonds, Secretary cum Executive Director, Jan Vikas Samiti.

The students will gain both practical and theoretical training for the rehabilitation of persons with disabilities at the community level.

Addressing the students, the guests emphasized on the role of technical education in empowerment of persons with disabilities and employment opportunities and appreciated Jan Vikas Samiti for this important step towards building an inclusive society through this initiative.

On December 14, 2024, Jan Vikas Samiti celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, focusing on the theme “Developing Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.” A total of 1000 persons with disabilities and their guardians participated in the event.

Chandran Riymonds, Executive Director of Jan Vikas Samiti, welcomed the participants and shared the organization’s efforts in providing rehabilitation services for persons with disabilities across 14 states in North and Northeast India for the past 20 years. He also highlighted that the organization has been recognized twice with State Awards for outstanding services for rehabilitation of persons with disabilities by the Government of Uttar Pradesh in the last four years.

Dr. Raghini Sonkar, MLA from Machhli Shahar, and Mr. Naveen Singh Bablu, representative of the Member of Parliament from Chandauli, graced the function as the chief guest and president of the event. The program began with a welcome song performed by visually impaired children from Jeevan Jyoti School. A group dance by children with disabilities from JVS Muskaan Day Care and a wheelchair dance by children with disabilities from Kiran Society further added to the event’s importance.

The guests launched a “Tip-sheet for caregivers” translated in Hindi by Jan Vikas Samiti from the original English version of it from Enablement, the Netherlands. On the occasion, the JVS EmpowerAbility Award 2024 was presented to seven youth with disabilities, recognizing their extraordinary ability to break barriers in the face of challenges and becoming a beacon of hope and a catalyst for change in the society.

Special guests, Mr. Kailash Nath Sonkar, former MLA from Ajgara Assembly, appreciated Jan Vikas Samiti’s for its dedicated work for persons with disabilities and assured full support to ensure the rights and development of persons with disabilities. Mr. Shashi Pratap Singh, National President of the National Equal Party, emphasized the importance of reserving positions for persons with disabilities in constitutional roles and political parties. Mr. Utam Ojha, a member of the State Disability Advisory Board, spoke about government schemes available for persons with disabilities.

Dr. Raghini Sonkar appreciated the efforts of Jan Vikas Samiti and vowed to support persons with disabilities, particularly focusing on eliminating discrimination against disabled women and adolescents. Mr. Naveen Singh Bablu extended his best wishes for the day and encouraged the participants in his constituency to reach out to him if they face any challenges and assured his support and collaboration with Jan Vikas Samiti.

The event concluded with the distribution of blankets to every person with disabilities who participated in the event and Mr. Ranjeet Kumar Singh delivered the vote of thanks.

The programme launched by Chief Guest Mr. Arvind Pathak, Basic Education Officer Varanasi, Mr. Badri Prasad Verma, Section Development Officer Harhuo, Mr. Ambarish Kumar, Director RESTI-UBI Mr. Uttam Ojha, Member State Disabled Advisory Board, Mrs. Sangeeta Pathak, Principal P0S0 Murdahon, Jitendra Branch Manager Indian Overseas Bank and two children Done with lighting lamp by. Colourful program was presented by the children of Tatprashchat Community Learning Center. Children made this day memorable with cultural programs like welcome dance, patriotic dance, modern dance, and speech etc.
Chief guest and other special guest highlighted the importance of Gan Children’s Day and told children that today’s children are the future of the country. Children’s contribution is key to nation building. Guests put on this day that building whole personality will prove to be a millstone in the country’s development, along with education, health, sports etc.
On this occasion, teaching materials were given to children by Jan Vikas Committee by Chief Guest and other distinguished guests to help them in reading. Children were also rewarded for good performances in different types of sports competition. The program concluded with the national anthem.

Mr. Sachidanand, Ex-Principal and Mr. Ramjeet Maurya, Principal, Bramhacharya Sanskrit University, Varanasi and other guests. They assured their full support and motivated the children to work to fulfill their dreams.

The theme of the day was Our time is now – Our Rights, Our Future. 500 girls from the neighborhood schools participated in the celebration. The chief guest of the celebration was Mrs. Poonam Maurya, President, District Panchayat and the special guest of the occasion was Sneha Upadhyay, President, CWC, Varanasi. The guests motivated all the girls to stand up for their rights and inspired them to fulfill their dreams. JVS also conducted a Speech competition for the girls on the same theme and the winners were awarded with first, second and third prize. Also, the girls demanded their rights through a signature campaign.
