Debojit Das is a 7-year-old child from Batamari village of Sonitpur district of Assam. His father is Gopal Krishna Das who he runs a bicycle workshop in the village for their livelihood. Debojit was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy by the doctor, however due to lack of knowledge and awareness on the implications of their child’s disability the parents did not  follow-up for any further treatment and was ignored from required timely medical care.  Debojit totally depended on his mother for daily living activities.

Community-Based Worker of the project supported by Jan Vikas Samiti, identified Debojit and conducted an assessment and found him with zero percentage of his physical and speech mobility. Jan Vikas Samiti supported debojit for medical check-up, regular physio and speech therapy and also provided training on Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) to Debojit’s Mother to capacitate her to take care of her child.

After a year, through continuous home-based therapeutic support and counselling by the community-based worker, Debojit was able to walk by his own and speak few words. His level of dependency on his mother for his daily living activities also reduced as he was able to partially manage them. The parents are very happy, to note the progress in their child and they do believe by continues support by Jan Vikas Samiti and their effort together will make their child come out of this limitation.

 

 

 

 

 

 

IMPACT REPORT JVS 2020

Ajit is a 27 year old youngster from Harriapetty village of Uttar Pradesh.  He was affected by polio at the age of 3 and was ignored from the early identification and medications. His father is a shoe shiner and only the breadwinner in the family.  Ajit had to face lots of problems duding his studies due to his social and economic status. In spite of that with strong determination and the timely  support from Jan Vikas Samiti for educational needs, He could complete ITI in Polytechnic.

Today, Ajit is able to earn for him and his family as he is into multiple income fetching occupations. While he is running a tuition centre in the village, he  works in a sweet shop as a part timer. He says “The support from Jan Vikas Samiti has really helped me to discover my ability that led me to change my own fate for a better tomorrow”.
